NSAC Team Descriptions

posted Oct 11, 2010 9:55 AM by Ad Club

All Ohio University students (regardless of major or year) are welcome to participate in the National Student Advertising Competition. The process is broken down into several teams that focus on different campaign elements. Students are welcome to participate on in as many of these teams as they want.

Along with two overall campaign directors each team also will have at least one student director to lead meetings and coordinates with the other team directors.

Marketing - The marketing team provides the backbone for the entire campaign: research. Understanding the product, the target market, and everything there is to know about popular culture is critical to forming a relationship between a brand and an audience. But marketing is more than just scavenging the web and library for useful scraps of demographic information - our marketing teams take a hands-on approach to research. Focus groups, surveys, case studies and even ethnography studies all help us to truly understand our audience.

Media - But how are we going to talk to our consumer? That's the question that the media team answers. Advertising is about communication - and the media that we use is the bridge between our message and the consumer. The world of advertising media is both growing and changing at an awe-inspiring rate, and with new technology emerging daily (maybe even hourly - or minutely!) the choices are vast. But which media will be most effect for our particular message? We'll see...

Creative - Creative is the face of our brand. It is the actual message that we are sending to consumers: the advertisements. But before any ads are made, we develop an overarching "Big Idea" that encompasses our brand strategy. All ads then must embody this big idea, the brand identity, and communicate a unique and engaging message. So get your thinking caps on and let the creative juices flow.

Production - We don't just think of this and let it sit there... we actually make it! Production brings our creative concepts to life. Print, TV, Out Of Home - you name it and we want to see it (and show it off).

Public Relations and Promotions - There are so many ways to communicate with consumers - some of which are more personal than others. PR and promotions usually work to reinforce the creative "Big Idea" and brand message in a personal way through events, press, and anything else that your brilliant PR minds can think up!

Presentation - Presentation team are the ones who take our campaign to the client. Five students will present all of our hard work to client representatives, industry professionals, and our peers. They will be judged based on real industry standards and are expected to know every nuance and reasoning behind the campaign.
